Assignment 4: Unit 11: Personal Carer Development:

1. Identification of a range of job roles in the print based media industries that related to your personal potential career path:

I would like to be a Journalist as this has always been a passion of mine from a young age. I have grown up reading newspaper articles and magazine columns which has allowed me to gain a more rounded vocabulary, but also have the opportunity to understand what is going on in the world through a Journalists point of view. I would love to write for publications and have the responsibility of educating society through newspaper writing. I would like to be a journalist who writes about lifestyle as this allows you to research into many different areas and understand key areas of lifestyles.  Journalism could be a potential carer path as I am interested in this field and I have been lucky enough to have had work experience in this sector which allowed me to enhance not only my skills but also my knowledge in this area of print based media.

Also, another potential carer path which interests me is a Graphic designer, I have always loved comic magazines with animations and this is all due to graphics. I love how visual presentations are turned into amazing graphics. For example, what a graphic designer visualises is then made through the use of art and turned into a graphic design. Also, I love how different Logos resemble different things for example, how a Coca cola logo is so simple but really draws the audience in. Therefore, Graphic design would also be a potential career path as I would love to expand the creative eye for art but also learn and understand why people love graphics and how it assumes them.

Moreover, another potential career path which has always interested me is a magazine editor, this job involves organisation skills which I feel I have, but also it involves a big responsibility and I would like to take on this role to be able to oversee everything such as the publication and the layout. I would also enjoy giving ideas and suggestions to the team and I would enjoy taking an article and changing what I feel needs changes such as, if an article needs more life to it, I would like to change the wording and make the article feel more warm for the audience to understand. Also, I would enjoy the proofreading stage seeing how far an idea has been taken and been used, this would impress me to see the different stages of how the magazine has developed through editing.

Lastly, the last potential career path which would interest me in the print based media world, would be a photographer. Being a photographer allows you to witness imagery which only you can see through a lens and i feel this is a great way to experience the world. A photograph has such deep meaning and being that person who is the first to capture it allows you to explain who you are as a person but also allows you to be creative with the imagery and how you want to portray it.  If I chose this career path I would like to be a photographer for either advertisement or fashion as I find these two fields the most creative when it comes to photography as you can experiment with the camera. However, I think I would be more interested in advertisement photography as it is down to your photo skills if the audience like the product. You have to have good social skills for this job role as you are communicating with clients on a regular basis and you have to fulfil their requirements. Therefore, I feel I would like this job as I like communicating and meeting new people, but I also enjoy using a camera to capture moments you may not see again.

2. Identify your skills gaps and create a development plan to fill those gaps:

Journalism:
  • To filful the job role of a Journalist you need to have the these skills as follows:
  • Communication skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Investigating into stories through contacts
  • Build a list of contacts and a clientel
  • You need to have the confidence to ask questions at a press conference
  • You need to be able to handle breaking news when you receive a phone call at the news desk.
The skills I do not have for the job:
  • I do not have contacts to build a relationship with.
  • I also do not have the skill of investigating into stories further due to the lack of clients.
Therefore, to filful these gaps I would try and get as much work experience as possible within this field and learn from the professionals and pick up on their skills and how they work on a daily basis. Also, research would be a big part of filling the gaps, as I will be able to look into the roles and responsibilities this job requires and educate myself.

Graphic Designer:
  • Developing briefs
  • Presenting final Ideas and concepts to clients
  • Working as a team
  • Paitence is a key skill to have in this industry
The Skills I do not have for the job:
  • Presenting final ideas and concepts to the clients.
This highlights to work in this field I would have to work on filling the gap of learning how to present final ideas and concepts to the clients. Firstly, I have never worked alongside a graphic design firm and I do not know who the clients are so I would have to get comfortable with presenting relevant Ideas to the correct clients. However, to fill this gap and gain the skill I would take on work experience as you can only benefit from having experience and this would allow me to fill the gap as I would be gaining first hand work experience from a graphic designer who has been in my position and has worked their way up.

Magazine Editor:

  • Attending photo-shoots
  • Generating Ideas for the writers
  • Negotiating payments with clients
  • Selecting articles for release
The Skills I do not have for the job:
  • Negotiating payments
  • Selecting articles for release
This shows the be able to have this job title I would have to be able to learn and fill these gaps. Firstly, I do not know how the payments work in the print based media field so I would have to learn about different costs in this sector. Also, I have not had experience at choosing what the correct article is for release and you need to be able to have this skill; because you are in charge of that article and you need to know if it  is appropriate for the audience but also is it the correct time, for this article to go out. Therefore, I would have to work on these skills to be able to fill these gaps to be eligible for the job role and to fill them in the best way, which  would allow me  to take on the role and learn through the other professionals.

Photographer:

  • Working with clients
  • Be able to carry out research for shoots
  • Having the ability to arrange props, backgrounds and locations
  • Manage basic accounting such as payments
  • Know how to use equipment
The Skills I do not have for the job:
  • Be able to carry out research for the shoots
  • Manage basic accounting such as payments
  • Know how to use equipment
These are the skills I do not have for the job and would need to work on these skills to the fill the gaps to be right for the job. The only way to fill the skill of knowing how to carry out research for shoots would be to meet with different photographers and ask what techniques they use and what research they do for the shoots. Also, to be able to manage basic accounting I would have to take on a course for a few weeks to understand basic accounting and how you deal with payments in the photography industry. Also, I would have to be taught how to use some of the equipment such as light shades and different cameras and which camera is best for different shoots. Therefore, the best way is training and experience and to work alongside other photographers in the field to understand from their prospective how to be correct for the job.

Overall, to fill these gaps in all four job roles the best way to be able to gain these skills which I am missing is work experience and to be passionate to learn alongside professionals in the industry.

Digital Graphics for Print - Unit 54:

Definitions of Raster, Vector, Metafiles and File extensions:

Raster:
A raster image is made up of  pixels, each a different color, arranged to display an image. Raster graphics can typically be scaled down with no loss of quality.
Vector:  In vector graphics, the file that results from a graphic artist's work is created and saved as a sequence of vector statements. For example, instead of containing a bit in the file for each bit of a line drawing, a vector graphic file describes a series of points to be connected. A vector image is made up of paths, each with a mathematical formula (vector) that tells the path how it is shaped and what colour it is bordered with or filled by.
Metafiles: Metafiles are in a sense a combination of bitmap and vector formats, many of the pros and cons associated with these formats also apply to metafiles. Your decision to choose one particular metafile format over another will depend on what kind of data (bitmap or vector) makes up the bulk of the file, and on the strengths and weaknesses of that particular type of data.
  • Although many metafile formats are binary, some are character-oriented (ASCII), and these are usually very portable between computer systems.
  • Metafiles containing mixtures of vector and bitmap data can in some cases be smaller than fully-rendered bitmap versions of the same image.
  • A piece of graphical information stored in a format that can be exchanged between different systems or software.

File Extensions:
  • A string of characters attached to a filename, usually preceded by a full stop and indicating the format of the file.

  • file extension or file name extension is the ending of a file that helps identify the type of file in operating systems such as Microsoft Windows.

  • File extensions are a way of letting the user and their computer know what type of program created any given file.
Computer files have specific characteristics which depend on the software that created them. If you try to open a file using the wrong program, it will fail to open or sometimes even crash the program.

Unit 29 - Assignment 4 Music Video Footage & Music Video:

https://youtu.be/9sL_RT2ziog Music Video Link:

I was the Poducer and Talia was the Director and Camera women. Also, I was the lighting technician and together we both edited using final cut to put together and conclude our footage into a music video. Below is the footage to show the different roles we had to make the music video, for example me holding the light and Talia with the tripod. Moreover, in the music video I was acting as the sister to the main actor and Talia was acting as one of the judges at the audition stages. We had one main actor known as Omer, two judges Talia and Bailey and other actors such as audience members;to show their reactions towards the auditions. Lastly, we were able to put all of our footage into a music video format and overall we are happy with how we worked with making the video and using final cut editing software. As you can see in the music video we used different effects such as black and white effects, transitions and paste such as, some scenes are slow and others are faster.

Evaluation on Music Videos:
Daniel and Harrison:
Their music video is very professional, there is good lip syncing to the song. Also, I like the graphics which have been used which gives the music video more of a professional look and I think the bright colours used have enhanced the music video. Overall, their music video is a good music video and you can tell it has been thought through and the camera shots are very accurate.

Ollie and Brandon:
Good effects in the music video, good editing skills and the black and white showed more drama. The quality of the film was very good. However, the storyline was a bit confusing and the tempo of the song was up beat and the music video did not quite match that.

Gabby and Talia:
Our music video would need more planning in place as we had a storyline and realised through production we needed to add more for the story to make sense. Therefore, our planning needs work. However, our affects worked with the emotion of the song such as slow scenes and black and white affects.

Olivia and Morgan:
Their music video had a clear story line, the lip syncing was very clear and easy to see. The lighting and camera shots were very clear and overall the effects used and technical ability was very good.

Overall, from people commenting on our music video the main key point which came up was the lip syncing therefore, in the future we now know how important it is for lip syncing to be on point. Our strengths were, using effects, using different types of paste such as slow scenes, faster scenes and normal scenes. Our ability using final cut was good according to the comments, we showed we know how to use the software and the affects. Our feedback was fair as we agree that our planning was one of the main issues, as we realised through the process of the making of the music video that we needed extra footage to show the storyline clearer.

Unit 29 Music Production Assignment 2

Originate Ideas;
1:

I have chosen Hello, by Adele as I feel this is a song which tells a story so vividly, for example the narrative is so clear, as the story is showing she is singing to someone far away, an example may be heaven. The lyrics interpret different meanings but they are so powerful and everyone relates to the music in different ways. However, the scenes go from being all calm and then the tension builds majorly. In our music video we want to portray a girl going for an audition and she keeps getting knocked back and then she finally gets a letter saying she has got through, the lyrics will show she is not going to give up even if the singing competition is a long way away. However, our story line links to the lyrics as it shows she won't give up and she will overcome the hurdles. Adele's song has so much emotion in and we want to show this emotion in our music video through the story line and the lyrics. The Hello, music video shows dark moments with Adele being isolated by herself in an old house, when she looks out the window the weather is dull and dark and this symbolises something bad has happened or will happen, known as Pathetic Fallacy. Therefore, Adele is going to sing about a sad time she has been through and she wants her audience to relate to the lyrics in anyway they want to relate to them. However, the dark scenery goes well with the lyrics as her lyrics show themes of isolation, loneliness and dark times. Also, in the music video when she picks up the blanket and dust falls of, of it so quickly it shows that the house is old and no one has entered or touched the house in a very long time, symbolising death. We feel that our story line of not giving up goes well with Adele's lyrics as when she says,' Hello, it's me', this will be portrayed through a letter in our music video showing she is not giving up and she will keep writing letters until she hears back from the singing competition. The lyrics, ' they say time is suppose to heal ya', this shows we will implement this in our music video showing that the girl hopes time will help her get better at singing and she hopes they will accept her in the competition with time. The actor will also portray, the lyrics, 'Hello can you hear me', her letter will show this so clearly as through using a pen and paper to write to the competition she gets frustrated that they may not be hearing her, whilst writing the letter she gets emotional as she feels she is not being heard. Adele's lyrics symbolise she has lost someone and they are now somewhere else for example heaven, through her lyrics she shows that she is sorry and can that person hear her, this highlights she is trying to say sorry to someone who has passed and when she repeats,' Hello its me,' it shows that she wants that person to know it is her speaking to them, in her case singing. Therefore, in our music video we will be using the lyrics by Adele, but with our own idea showing how important this singing competition is to this girl. Whereas, in Adele's music video she won't give up about saying sorry, this shows the girl won't give up on singing and writing to the competition. Therefore, our idea links very well to Adele's Hello as the lyrics symbolise hope which we are going to get across in our music video.

Hello Lyrics:

Hello, it's me
I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet
To go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya
But I ain't done much healing

Hello, can you hear me?
I'm in California dreaming about who we used to be
When we were younger and free
I've forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet

There's such a difference between us
And a million miles

Hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore

Hello, how are you?
It's so typical of me to talk about myself. I'm sorry
I hope that you're well
Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happened?

And it's no secret that the both of us
Are running out of time

So hello from the other side (other side)
I must have called a thousand times (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore

[4x:]
(Highs, highs, highs, highs,
Lows, lows, lows, lows)
Anymore

Hello from the other side (other side)
I must have called a thousand times (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore

2:
We will have three actors who will be in our music video.

  • The actress who is the main character is really enthusiastic and ambitious, but you can tell she has been acting for a while and she is starting to give up because of the reactions and feeling rejected. However, she still tries anyway, as it is her dream to sing. Following many failed auditions she becomes aggressive and angry to the point she stamps around, slams doors and she really takes her anger out. Eventually she receives a letter which says she has got into the production and she is over joyed. Her sister is very supportive and she relies on her sister for moral support, as when she is happy or sad she always counts on her sister. She is seven teen years old, medium height, long hair, medium build. Throughout the music video the artist will be wearing the same clothes so she is easily noticed, however during the auction stage she wears a different set of clothes compared to when she is at home. She will be wearing chilled clothes whilst she is at home but at the auction she may dress smarter such as jeans and a jumper. The actress wears subtle make up and her hair is down. Also, depending on the audition she may wear an accessory for example a hat.
  • The sister is a supporting character in the music video who helps the actress who is struggling feel safe and secure and positive after a bad audition and having been rejected. The sister is a positive character who you can tell, comforts her sister all the time and the sister is there when she celebrates at the end, showing that she truly cares for her sister. The sister is a year older, she is a tiny bit taller and she stays in the same clothes throughout, as she is revising in her room. During the whole of the music video she is at the house and she supports her sister once her sister gets home.
  • The producer is the judge in the auditioning room, who always rejects the the actress and then finally after she writes to him he replies saying she has got through. Even though there are many auditions, the judge will be played by the same character, who wears different clothing or accessories to show the different stages of the audition process. Also, the fact she is going through the process with the same judge but she is not getting anywhere proves she has hope and is not giving up. The judge will be in the auditioning room the whole of the music video dressed differently , behind a table with a script and pen in front of him, or a CV that he may be reading. The point of the judge is for him to find the best person for the part but he is very picky and he takes forever to make a decision.
3:
Our style will be in black and white and it will be set in the 21st century, for example mobile phones maybe used in some scenes.
The overall concept of the music video is that there is a young actress, around 17 years. auditions over and over again until she eventually get's a part. in between these audition scenes, there are shots where she is  being shown comforted by her sister following the rejections.
Hello is a 5 minute song, We broke the music video down based on this.
1st minute: Is the first audition
2nd minute: Her reaction to her be rejected back at home, she is upset.
3rd minute: the second audition
4th minute: her reaction to another ejection, she is more aggressive and angry that the first rejection
5th minute: letter showing that she got into the production, her exaction is happy.

Research Sources for locations and found footage:
This is what audition rooms look like, I have made a mood bored on the different types of audition rooms to show many different auditions are held. For example, theatre auditions are in a studio or the theatre with many people. Whereas, singing auditions such as the X Factor take place in a hotel bored room and arenas. Below is the mood bored with a range of different rooms to show the difference in audition rooms, also the audition room depends on the type of audition. For example if you are a model and are auditioning for a new fashion brand you will audition in a room with a green screen behind you. Therefore, all audition rooms are different due to the event.

From this footage, I have watched the audits of over 40 famous actors auditioning for a rile within the respective movies and who they did it so that we can reflect on the auditions scenes of our video and make it accurate.

Some of the thing's I noticed were that in the majority of these actors videos, they knew the lines off by heart, and were not constantly looking at the script. They were acting towards the camera with confidence and did not need the aide of the script which is what helped them win some of these famous roles.

Another thing i noticed while watching these auditions were that they all had a different physicality, such as standing up/ sitting down or walking around in order to get that role. In the audition scenes we can use this and the actress should actually genuinely act to the best of her ability, so it can show that later on she get's the role even though she may not be looking good at that point.

These actors also took all sorts of risks attempting to receive parts in these movies, such as crying, dressing up, sitting down or moving around. the actress should do this in the video to she that she is trying really hard to get a part but she keeps being rejected. It would be really fortunate, if the actress would share a tear a

But as she is an amateur actress, she may have to still use her script to remember her lines in the music video, which is why the producer keeps rejecting her.

Conclusion: I will use X location because …

To conclude, we will be using either Gabby’s room or the spare room as the bedroom for the actress to be practicing her singing in. The development gardens will be used, when the actress goes out to practice singing by herself. The older sister will either be in one of the rooms or in the kitchen doing work. Therefore, we will be using all the locations to help contribute to our music video having a range of rooms involved. By using one of the bedrooms for the actress then the other bedroom can be for the sister or we can film the sister in the kitchen, this shows that we may either be using two bedrooms or one bedroom and the kitchen.

Team Roles and Responsibilities:

Talia will be the director of the production. Her responsibilities are to and have been to write up the production schedule, the location recce in JCoSS, drew up the story board and labeled each shot of it. She also wrote up the risk assessment for the audition scenes that we will be shooting in school and got permission from Mrs Eyre's (head of BTEC) to film there throughout January to Feb. As  well as contributing to the research she was responsible for talking about audition process and how we can bring that into our music video. While filming, she will be responsible for directing and making sure that everything goes to plan as we have drawn up here.

Gabby will be the producer of the music video and will make sure everything runs accordingly, I have had the responsibility of helping with the storyboard, the shot by shot script, team roles and responsibilities and the location reccce, risk assessment and the permission to film; I did the risk assesment for my house and got permission from my parents to film. I will be having a role of editing and making sure we edit to the best of our ability. I will be responsible for the equipment whilst filming and making sure everything is safe.

We will both be responsible for finding actors, producing and editing the whole music video.

Clearances:
As you can see we have permission to film in both locations, which are Gabby's house and JCoSS respectively. All music heard in the video belong's to Adele and her label, Universal Music Group as in no way our own work. In regards to the video, any characters involved are in no reference to anyone in particular, living or dead  and are completely fictitious as well as the storyline of the music video.

We do not plan to use water in our music video, however in the SLT there are taps around. We will switch these off and make sure that they are not dripping regularly. We will also not drink water around the equipment and keep bottles away from there.
There are 2 main staircases in the school that we might have to navigate around. We plan to only use the staircases when they are empty and not between periods where other students may be occupying them. We will also walk slowly up and down the stairs and avoiding running with the equipment.
The public in this case are the children and staff attending this school. To avoid disruption, we will not use the staircases between periods and will make sure that lessons are not interrupted by our filming. By only filming quite scenes. Shouting will not be a factor within our video.

All equipment used will be under our supervision the entire time. We will only be using sockets if completely necessary and we will do routine checks on both the wires and sockets to make sure that they are working properly. Wire ill also remain on the floor and will not be stretched or strengthened.

There will be no open flames or ga taps associated with this production. In the SLT, there are gas taps but we will make sure that they are switched off and away from the cameras. If an fires do occur, we will follow the school procedure of Fore and exit the building quickly and in a calm manner.
Transport to and from the school can be done via car, train and bus or walking. If there is no space in the car park, park at the back on the school. Any other issues that occur the security team will be able to help.
